Advanced Performance Monitoring Service
Are you unsure about the performance of your WAN circuit(s) or wireless link(s)?
Do you have a sensitive application that might be responding poorly due to low-level packet-loss?
If you have questions like these then Freewire has a solution for your advanced performance monitoring needs. While the standard Freewire 24/7/365 monitoring is a great solution for most situations, if you have advanced needs such as sub-second monitoring or scripted bandwidth-testing then this solution is a great choice.
Service Description
The APM service utilizes a Linux-based test device at each endpoint of a network circuit to regularly monitor and test connectivity. The service can provide three primary functions:
- High-Speed Ping Testing - Test pings can be sent between the test devices at rates up to 10 times per second to test uptime, latency, and jitter.
- Automated Bandwidth Testing - TCP or UDP bandwidth tests can be performed between the devices at regular intervals to determine available bandwidth on the circuit(s).
- SNMP monitoring - SNMP monitoring can be performed to the test device at each endpoint to monitor total bandwidth utilization and error rates.
Reporting
Standard reporting includes an email in the event of any packet-loss or severe latency, plus an email containing the results of each bandwidth test. Additionally, any available SNMP data can be viewed via a login to our customer-facing NMS system.
Requirements
Each test device require 120VAC power plus Ethernet ports for network connectivity. They should be installed directly between the circuit demarcation points and your network switches or routers. They will also need a third Ethernet connection providing internet access via either a public IP address or a firewall rule allowing remote access.
Fees
Use on Freewire-provided circuits/links
Initial install/setup fee per endpoint: $25
Monthly fee per endpoint: $25
Use on other circuits/links
Initial install/setup fee per endpoint: $50
Monthly fee per endpoint: $35
Note: the standard equipment supports bandwidth tests up to 20Mbps. For greater speeds or any other custom needs please contact us for a quote.
